The foolproof cafetière method
A clean, full-bodied French press without the sludge.

TL;DR
- Use a coarse grind and a 1:15 ratio.
- Steep four minutes, break the crust, skim, then plunge gently.
- Decant straight away to stop over-extraction.
The cafetière is the most forgiving brewer there is - and with one extra step, it makes a remarkably clean cup.
The method
Add coarse grounds, pour hot water, and steep for four minutes. Break the crust with a spoon, skim the foam and grounds, wait a moment, then plunge slowly and decant.
